We've just left the Ft. Lauderdale airport and I'm anxiously peering through the tree tops hoping for my first glimpse of her. The airport is a very short drive to Port Everglades, so assuming that Captain Bill hasn't taken her out for a joy-ride, she should be berthed at the new Terminal 18 pier. There are a few quick sightings as we top the highway overpasses. But, the best view comes from the top of the 17th Street causeway. First impression: she's HUGE! The Royal Promenade is a good neighborhood to start in, since each guest first enters through the Promenade on Deck Five. First introduced on Vision class ships, the Royal Promenade is also standard on Freedom class vessels. On the Oasis, the Royal Promenade runs from forward to aft elevators connecting to the top level of the Opal Theatre in the front of the ship and the top level of the Opus Dining Room in the rear of the ship. And, of course it's longer, wider and taller than on other ships.

By walking all the way through the Royal Promenade, and taking an elevator or stairway up one deck, you'll arrive at the outdoor Boardwalk. Situated on Deck Six, the Boardwalk looks like a Coney Island seaside pier. The first thing you notice on the Boardwalk is the beautiful hand carved wooden Carousel. In fact, leading up to the Carousel are two rough cut blocks of wood showing the progression of carving the finished Carousel animals.

Central Park is amazing, and quite far removed from any traditional cruise-ship experience. Other than the possibility of catching a seagull soaring high overhead, you'd never know you were on the ocean. After Oasis arrived in Florida a massive team went to work "planting" Central Park with over 12,000 plants and trees. Final touch-ups were still being applied while we were onboard, but overall the impact is quite stunning. Three decks above the Royal Promenade, Central Park spans the entire space between the forward and aft elevator lobbies on Deck Eight. The Pool and Sports Zone stretches from the adult-only Solarium at the front of the ship to the two Flow Riders aft on Decks Fifteen and Sixteen. In between you'll find an ample playground of pools, whirlpools, sunning decks, bars, a basketball court, and even a miniature golf course.

The main plaza of Entertainment Place is one deck below the Royal Promenade. Nearest the forward elevator is Jazz on 4, a small lounge showcasing live jazz and blues that is styled after prohibition-era Chicago - featuring walnut paneling, plush seating and velvet drapes. Across the plaza is Blaze nightclub with dramatic entrance doors "burning" with hot flames and a "charred" threshold.
