One of the most ambitious revitalization initiatives in the history of the cruise industry has just been completed. Celebrity Cruises' Celebrity Millennium set sail Saturday from the Port of Miami, fresh from becoming the fourth and final Millennium Class ship to complete the line's $140-million "Solsticizing" process, incorporating a host of the venues and experiences guests love most on the Solstice Class ships. We're sailing onboard the Azamara Journey!
In association with Azamara Club Cruises, Global Travel Destinations will have representatives onboard the 11-night sailing from San Juan on March 30th.
During this "seminar-at-sea" we'll attend onboard training sessions, behind-the-scenes reviews and learn more about Azamara Club Cruises and the Azamara Journey.
Sailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, we have overnight calls at Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Hamilton, Bermuda and New York City. After a late evening departure from San Juan, we've made our way to one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean, St. Thomas. But, it's a very quiet day today, we're the only ship in port. We're moored at Havensight, the cruise focused duty-free shopping area outside of Charlotte Amalie. At the end of the harbor is a new shopping area called Yacht Haven Grande. Formerly only a moorage operation for large yachts, this area now features high end shopping and dining options. After an early morning departure from St. Thomas we're safely anchored in St. John's Cruz Bay by around 8:30am this morning. We take advantage of US cellular coverage for some morning phone calls and emails. Neither St. Thomas nor St. John's has great cellular coverage, but even at 2G speeds, it is still much less expensive than using the ship's WiFi or cell phone connections. Except for the name, "Fat Virgin" (thanks to Christopher Columbus), Virgin Gorda is a beautiful, enchanting island in the British Virgin Islands. This morning we're anchored in a picturesque bay near Spanish Town, BVI. We're scheduled for the "Island Tour" excursion - our second ship tour. After meeting our tour group onboard, we tender ashore to meet our tour guide. As is common in the Virgin Islands, our transportation is an open bed truck converted to a "taxi" with a cover over rows of bench seats. After two sea days, we've arrived in Bermuda. Our first day leaving the Caribbean was very calm and warm. The second day, traveling nearly due north, we encountered cooler temperatures and rough seas. After about 36 hours of walk-hampering and for some, stomach-churning discomfort, it was a great to reach Hamilton yesterday morning. After 3 nights in Bermuda, we're once again underway for 2 sea days before we reach New York City. Yesterday morning was very quiet in Hamilton in observance of Good Friday. However, we were able to find an open restaurant/pub that offered 1 hour of free internet usage. Thanks again to Hog Penny for the excellent snacks, beers and WiFi connection. After catching up on email we returned to the ship, drop off our laptops and head to the ferry pier. After missing the last ferry to Kings Wharf on Thursday, we now have another opportunity since the ship has not moved to St. Georges as planned. Read full story >>
